Shoes For Dancing

Do you love to dance and need shoes for dancing the Samba, Rumba, the Cha Cha, Paso Doble, Jive, Tango, Foxtrot, English Waltz, Quickstep, Viennese Waltz, Swing, Mambo, Merengue or the Argentine Tango?

Finding the right dancing shoes will give you the right balance and pivot, but they also should feel like an extension of your fit, that means they need to fit properly and be comfortable.

After becoming a huge fan of Dancing with the Stars, Dancing has become one of my favorite pass times. I dance at weddings and we swing dance every chance we get.  So fun!

But one thing I've learned is that any dance becomes much easier if you wear the right shoes for dancing.

So what makes dancing shoes Unique

All shoes for dancing, both for ladies and men, are very light weight withnon-slip suede soles andmetal shanks in the arch for maximum support. Dance Shoes are designed as closed or open toed sandals or pumps with heels of about 1-3 inches.

The heels can be either Slim or wide.  A dance shoe with a heel helps with weight transfer when  you dance.  Of course if you're tap dancing the most essential part of the tapping sound comes from the heel.  Also, the difference in the heel size can affect your turns.  For example wider heels give your feet a bit more stability.

Steer clear of rubber soled shoes. They offer too much tread on the floor and you can trip.  Also turns are much harder with rubber heels.

Tips When Buying shoes for Dancing

1. Always buy a shoe that has good support. Don't go higher than 2 inches in the heel, particularly if you are taking lessons and just learning.

2. If you are just learning, don’t buy a hugely expensive, high end pair of dancing shoes.  You can purchase a cheaper pair to learn with and then move to more expensive a you get better.  You can get quality discount shoes for dancing at DSOL - save over 40% on dance shoes there.

3. When fitting for dance shoes they should be a little snug as they will stretch out. You actually want your big toe to be at the very edge of the shoe.
